North Carolina State University Pipes & Drums

NC State University Pipes & Drums is a traditional Scottish bagpipe band consisting of NC State students, parents, and alumni as well as folks who live in or near the Research Triangle (Raleigh/Durham) area of North Carolina.

Founded by a group of NCSU students in 1968, the band still maintains its association with the NCSU Music Department but no longer receives university funding and operates as a nonprofit (501c3) organization whose purpose is to preserve and promote the tradition and heritage of Highland Scottish piping and drumming through instruction, competition, and performance.

The band currently competes in grade V pipe band competitions at Highland games in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia and plays in parades and at concerts, festivals, games, and other events in North Carolina and South Carolina.

Becoming a Sponsor of NCSU Pipes & Drums

Financial donations by organizations, companies, and others supplement the income the band receives for playing at Highland games, parades, festivals, concerts, and other events and provides the additional financial support the band for piping and drumming workshops, travel expenses, uniforms, piping and drumming supplies, and other activities.

But in a larger sense, financial support from organizational, corporate, and government supporters benefits not just the band, but also North Carolina’s communities and people, NCSU, and the heritage, tradition, and culture of Scottish Americans.

The band is currently seeking organizational, corporate, or government sponsors for 2025 – 2028.

Band sponsors are invited to donate $1,000 for a one-year sponsorship or $2,500 for a three-year sponsorship.

The band will recognize band sponsors by displaying the sponsors names and logos on the band’s website, in the band’s newsletter, and on the band’s banner at parades and other events as well as offering sponsors a 25% discount for the band’s playing at one sponsor event (subject to scheduling and availability).
